Daniel Munn         A report states that McKains Accomodation House was taken over by Daniel Munn who established Napiers first Hotel the Royal. It is understood that Mckains was a two storied building was sold to Daniel Munn in 1855 & later named Ferry Hotel
          Many patrons were rowdy whalers

          Napier Taupo road opened in 1874. Coach left Ferry Hotel at 6.30am passengers had to stay athe Hotel as with early start tides were not guaranteed to ensure they could get across bridge.
    1880     Hotel Moved to 20-21 Meeanee Quay
           
          First Westsern Spit bridge was built by an Auckland Company & opened August 1880
          Hotel would have fallen on hard times losing its regular clientile. In 1880 only a few houses were on the spit.
          An 1880 photo shows the Hotel and about a dozen houses
           
          Business for the Hotel would have improved with the arrival in 1884 of the North British Freezing Company freezing works.
           
          In 1893-4 there were 50 occupied sections on the spit
